Autistic Anime Art
“The Artistic Journey of an Autistic Anime Visionary”
“Hi! My name is Adam Cohen!”
My aim is to create, combine and visualize many elements of my own artistic passions, to create some truly intriguing and interesting artworks! Art pieces that I’ve already crafted and are on display, include the “Incarcerated Innocence Painting” and the “Torabunny and Magearna QT Drawing”.
My main goal is to create expansive and imaginative imagery, which makes connections between ideas that have not been fully realized before, such as utilizing the connections of special characters and symbols from genres like video games and anime. This is done to put my unique spin on their styles.
For my backstory, I will begin by saying that I was born in the United States of America on October 12, 1999, to a middle-class family. Growing up, I was behaviorally challenged and naïve, along with having an overactive imagination and a love for expressive video game scenarios. This was attributed early on to my being diagnosed with Asperger’s’ Syndrome at the age of 2-3 years old. Even so, I did not let this deter me from my willingness to thrive in life and succeed in my academic studies. I worked hard to get good grades throughout my years of mainstream public schooling, but this did not come without some difficulties along the way, which I had to overcome. Due to my determination to succeed, I was eventually gifted with the “Dedication to Academics” Award from John F. Kennedy High School in Bellmore, New York.
After High School, I attended College at Hofstra University for a year, while majoring in Biology. At the time, I had a big fascination with learning about how our bodies function, so I decided to indulge myself in studying anatomy and physiology, to help feed my curiosity! Soon after, I realized my true interests lie within the art-related fields of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture, which caused me to transfer to Adelphi University and change my major to “Studio in Art.” Since then, I have continued and still continue on this path, utilizing what I have learned and inventing my own style of artistic imagery that I have dubbed “Autistic Anime Art.”
When creating unique pieces of art, I follow a uniquely formatted plan that involves multiple steps. First, I must consider who or what will be the main focus of my art piece and exactly which materials will be utilized. Furthermore, I contemplate whether the art piece should be a drawing or a painting, along with which setting and accompanying color schemes can best emphasize the imagery that I am trying to portray. Once that is decided, I utilize certain already-established images as a point of reference, so that the details and proportions included in my art are perfectly blended and balanced.
One method that I created involves sketching with a special dashed-line technique, to get the angles and curves of the lines done in such a way, so that they fall together in a synchronous manner. After all the lines have been placed in an organized fashion, the chosen medium is carefully drafted upon the canvas, ending in a unified project. The end result is an utterly unique artwork that aims to connect emotionally, convey intriguing ideas, and establish exciting prospects within its viewers.
